Running an online competition business is fun and exciting, but we can’t lie: it’s a market overflowing with myths. These myths do more harm than good.
We’re here to clear the air, and give you a clearer insight into the world of online comps! In this article, we’ll debunk 10 online competition myths that you’ve probably heard, or perhaps even thought yourself. Let’s begin!
Fact: While scams and scammers do exist, most online competitions don’t fall under that label. The bulk of the market are run by legitimate brands.
But, we sympathise with why people think that way.
Sometimes it might feel like the prizes up for grabs are “too good to be true,” and that all online comps are, is an easy money-making scheme. It makes sense why people would think that no one really wins and hesitate to enter a comp, but the reason for it is simply not true.
In the UK, prize draws are tightly regulated, and have to be in-line with rules that ensure fairness. That’s why winners are selected randomly. Players win all the time, but it all depends on chance. Some days the odds will not be in your favour, but on another day, you might win a new BMW. It’s all part of the game. You never know when luck will strike!

Fact: In the UK, online competition businesses are bound by the rule that the advertised prize must be the same as the one awarded. The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) and Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) make sure of that.
If the advertised prize, for whatever reason, can’t be awarded, an equivalent, in both value and nature, must be offered instead. Say you’ve won a concert ticket, but the concert got cancelled. The promoter could offer you a ticket to a different concert. That’d be considered a reasonable equivalent.
Otherwise, you can rest assured that the prize advertised will be the same as the prize to be won. Good competition companies know the rules, and they won’t take any legal risks, or risks with your payments.
Fact: If a grand prize is advertised, it’s what the winner will receive. People do win all sorts of prizes. Smaller prizes, yes, but also high-value ones like luxury holidays, cars, or huge sums of cash. Either way, a win is a win, and it should be celebrated!

Fact: Some online competitions are structured in a way that makes them fall outside of the ‘gambling’ bracket, at least in the UK.
In gambling, the winner is determined purely by chance. In online comps, players are required to answer a specific question, showing off their skill, knowledge, or judgement.
Another key difference?
You don’t have to pay to enter online competitions, whereas in gambling, you do. By law, prize draws have to offer a free entry route in the UK.
Fact: It all comes down to probability. The more consistent you are, and the more frequently you enter competitions, the higher your overall probability of scoring a win.
At the same time, while entering multiple competitions boosts your chances, it doesn’t guarantee that you win. Just because you roll the die, doesn’t mean you’ll always land on a six. The winner selection is random.

Fact: Online competitions, such as Instant Win games, use a sophisticated Random Number Generator (RNG), meaning that the results of the competition are predetermined. This ensures fairness across the board.
Fact: In a similar vein, because the winners are picked randomly, it can’t always be the same people who win. Well, it can be, but they’d have to be extremely lucky.
RNGs don’t discriminate. They help ensure everyone has an equal chance at winning.
Fact: To have a chance at winning, all you need to do is enter the competition. There’s no need to wait till the eleventh hour to get your tickets.
Once you’re in the game, you have the same chance of winning as the person before you. The only way you can improve your odds is by buying more tickets.
Fact: The truth is, when you enter a competition, you’ll likely be signing up for a newsletter from the promoter. You can always unsubscribe from this newsletter (usually at the click of a button), but bear in mind that these emails contain information about winners and upcoming competitions, which you don’t want to miss out on!
Being subscribed to a newsletter doesn’t mean you’ll get spammed 24/7. If, however, you’re worried about your inbox getting cluttered, you might want to consider using a separate email for online competitions.

Fact: Most people skim right past the T&Cs, or don’t read them at all, but you should always read the fine print. Not only for your protection, but also to ensure your entry is valid.
You don’t want to enter a competition having missed an important hashtag, or not having followed the right account. It nullifies your entry, and you won’t be eligible to win.
All those myths? They are just myths at Ace Competitions.
You can trust that in our corner of the online competitions world, you’ll be entering competitions that aren’t just cool, but also trustworthy.
Pretty cool, huh? Why don’t you see for yourself? Enter our epic competitions.
Want the chance to win a car online? Not sure what the process looks like?
You’ve come to the right place.
It’s important to remember that, when you buy tickets to win a car, you have just as much chance as everyone else of bagging those wheels. That brand new car could be yours in no time.
And the best part? With Ace Competitions, you don’t even have to do much to make it happen.
Just buy a ticket, sit back, and let the magic happen.
So, you’ve scrolled through our competitions and found yourself a great deal? Ace!
Let’s get you winning that car…
The first thing to do is buy a ticket (or multiple!) to win the car.
Each online competition will have different rules about ticket numbers. Different prices will, of course, contribute to how many you decide to buy. Remember: the more you buy, the higher your odds, but don’t worry too much. All Ace Competitions have good odds.
Even if you only buy one ticket, that one could be the winner.
Here’s an example, to show you the sort of situation you might find…
With our latest ‘Win a BMW’ competition (Deadline: 30th November 2025!) you can enter up to 4,500 times. That’s a whole lot of chances to win a car.
Each ticket is £1.39, and there’s a default minimum of 10 tickets. You can also buy a batch of 100 tickets, or enter for free, via our postal route.
However many tickets you buy, you’ll need to make sure you answer the skill question correctly. Only those entrants who show off their big brain energy will be in with a chance of winning:

Once you’ve bought your ticket(s), a number will be randomly allocated to you. This will appear on your order confirmation correspondence, and in your Ace Competition account.
That number is important. It’s your raffle ticket. When the draw date comes, and you win your new car, that’s the number that will be pulled out of the virtual hat.
It’s important, then, that you make a note of the draw date.
The winning ticket number will be drawn completely at random.
To ensure complete and utter randomness, we use a Random Number Generator (RNG) created by Google. Not to get too science-y, but the RNG works off an algorithm, using it to spit out a random number from the list of entrants who got the quiz question right. That means that everything is fair. No favouritism here!
The number it generates is the winning ticket. If it’s your number, you’ve won a car!
We’ll use this RNG during a live prize draw over on Facebook. Prize draws are announced in advance on our social media, so make sure you follow us to stay in the loop.
You can choose to attend the livestream, but you should know that you’ll be contacted directly if you’ve won.
One thing to note is that the date of the prize draw will never change from what’s advertised. If you’ve bought tickets to win a car online, and the competition has an advertised draw date of 30th November, that’s when the draw date will be.
We’re true to our word, so that you know what to expect every step of the way.
So, this is it! You’ve won a car in an online competition. Congratu-very-lations; that’s Ace news.
What happens next?
Well, you’re the winner. That means you’ve got a choice to make.
Most ‘Win A Car’ competitions online will also offer a cash alternative. That’s for people who win the car, but decide they’d rather have a monetary equivalent.
For example, in our ‘Win A BMW’ competition you can choose between said BMW or £25,000 in cash.
Over to you: follow the instructions in your winners’ email, make the choice, and let us know.
At Ace Competitions, we personally deliver prizes straight to your door, wherever you’re in the country.
What’s more, we pride ourselves on prompt delivery, whether it’s a big prize like a car or something smaller and postage-sized.
At this stage, then, you can expect updates like any other online order: ‘it’s on its way!’. Keep an eye out for our communication and for your new car.

Want to know a secret? We’re really proud of our winners.
We’d be really pleased to see your smiling face as you get your hands on the car you’ve won.
That means you now have the option to be Ace Competitions-famous.
If you’re game, we’ll snap a cute picture of you with the car you’ve won. This will go on our social media accounts, as a flattering winners’ post, and/or on the ‘Winners’ Section of our website.
We know that people are going to love seeing you, in all your glory.
Ace Competitions wouldn’t be possible without the participation of lovely players like you.
We prioritise giving you a completely ace experience, offering ace prizes and ace odds.
Want the best news ever? The only people who aren’t in with a chance of winning a car are those who haven’t bought tickets.
Give yourself the best chance possible: buy a ticket, shoot your shot.
Luxury collectibles are experiencing a revival, and not just because of their everlasting sophisticated look. Scarcity, exclusivity and having a status symbol are what’s fueling the market, as well as the item being seen as quite a lucrative investment.
But gone are the days when luxury collectibles only referred to fine wines, designer handbags and rare vintage cars. The market has expanded over the years, and welcomed some adorable, fluffy contenders that rhyme with Latutu (if you know, you know).
The luxury collectible market’s been around for quite some time. People have always been enthusiastic about collecting something.
And no wonder, it’s fun to flaunt your expensive tastes, own rare, unique items and invest in your future. Also, collectibles provide you with a clear goal; they can give you a real sense of achievement.
When we say ‘collectibles,’ you might think of antiques, fancy watches, classical and contemporary art, coins and sports memorabilia.
You’re not wrong, these are all really popular luxury collectibles, but since the late 1990s, designer toys have been added to the list. Remember Beanie Babies?
Even though Beanie Babies were ‘just toys’ at first, they quickly rose to desirable “must-haves” due to their limited supply, and general cuteness! Sound familiar?

You’ve no doubt heard about the viral sensation that is Labubu. Their wee cheeky grins, woolly fits and pricked ears have a tight grip on the world, and our hearts, right now. Though these furry dolls became a global superstar only this year, they’ve been around since 2015.
Kasing Lung created Labubu as a character in his children’s book trilogy, The Monsters, inspired by Nordic Folklore.
In 2019, Lung and Pop Mart launched the Labubu dolls as part of a series, also called The Monsters. And the rest is history!
Labubu’s swift take-off as a “must-have” high-end item can’t be attributed to one reason alone. There are many factors at play here. Let’s break them down:
Labubus have come far from being mere characters in a children’s book. Their rich backstory, combined with their mischievous cuteness and worldwide adoration, makes them the next best item you could own. And trust us, you want to own it.
Just picture it: you’re out on a walk, your status-symbol-furry-friend hooked onto your bag. It catches people’s attention as they pass you by. They look at you, either wishing they were you or wishing they had your pendant, or both.
Isn’t it incredible how a small, fuzzy plush toy like a Labubu can instantly elevate your fashion game and make you look even more chic? Not only do you get to wear a small, trendy luxury wherever you go (even on a quick trip to Tesco!), but you might also make bank in the future, with how popular they are.
Sounds like a win-win to us.

What if we told you that you could get your hands on a Labubu, without the queues and the faff, and at a lower cost… perhaps even for free?
We know, we know. It sounds too good to be true. But it’s not!
We love sprucing our Acers up with the hottest, trendiest luxury items on the market, from Labubus to Rolexes. Want a chance to be next? Enter our competitions.
The idea of turning a few pounds into life-changing money is incredibly tempting, but it also raises an important question: are these cash prize competitions actually legit?
The short answer is some are, and some aren’t. In the UK, there are strict rules around how competitions and prize draws must operate, but not every promoter plays by them. Below, we’ll break down how to spot genuine competitions, what to look out for, and how to enter safely.
Over the last few years, online competitions have exploded in popularity. From social media giveaways to professional “raffle” style sites offering cars, gadgets and holidays, UK consumers now have more options than ever.
Part of the reason is accessibility. Most competitions only cost a few pounds to enter, and many legitimate companies operate under clear legal frameworks. When done right, these competitions can provide amazing opportunities to win substantial prizes such as:
However, with that surge in popularity, it’s important for web users to know their limits whilst also knowing which sites to trust.

If you’re wondering whether a particular site or competition is genuine, here are several green flags to look out for:
1) Registered UK Business
Always check if the promoter lists a company name, registration number, and contact details. A legitimate competition business will often be a limited company registered with Companies House.
2) Clear Terms and Conditions
Reputable operators publish transparent entry terms, including eligibility criteria, closing dates, entry limits, and how winners are chosen.
3) Winner Announcements and Proof
Genuine companies regularly post winners on their website or social media, often with videos, photos, or testimonials to prove authenticity.
4) Fair Pricing and Payment Security
Entry fees should be reasonable and processed through secure, recognisable payment platforms such as Stripe, Zap Pay, Apple Pay or PayPal. Avoid sites that only accept direct bank transfers or cryptocurrency.
5) Free Entry Option
By law, if payment is required to enter a UK competition, the promoter must also offer a free postal entry route. If there isn’t one, that’s a serious red flag.

While many competitions are above board, a few operate in the grey area or are outright fraudulent. Be cautious if you notice:
If something feels off, it probably is. Take a step back and do a quick search, you’ll often find reviews or warnings from other entrants.
Here are a few quick ways to verify if a UK cash competition is legitimate:
Many UK based cash competition sites aren’t scams at all, they’re genuine businesses often run by small communities.
The best competition sites go beyond simply selling tickets. They showcase winners, support charities, and make sure the experience feels fair, transparent, and fun.
So, are cash prize competitions legit? In the UK, yes, many are perfectly legitimate, provided they follow the law, operate transparently, and treat participants fairly.
But not all are created equal. Before entering any online competition:
A few minutes of checking could save you from disappointment or a potential scam.
When done right, entering competitions can be a fun and even rewarding hobby. Just remember: if a prize seems too good to be true or the website feels suspicious, it’s always better to walk away.

Won a holiday? Pack your bags, and get ready for a trip of your lifetime, all on Ace!
Luxury holidays are about more than just hopping on a plane. It’s about having tons of great experiences, making memories, and treating yourself.
Needless to say, before all the good stuff comes, some prep. While that might include getting your nails done or going shopping for new ‘fits, there are some other fun aspects to keep in mind.
We’ve created a handy checklist for you to ease the process.
Let’s get planning!

Before you start packing and planning your trip, re-read the terms and conditions of the competition. It’s always best to know for sure what is and isn’t included in your holiday prize. This includes:
Sometimes, certain extras (like insurance) aren’t included and are your responsibility.
If you’re ever in doubt or would like to know more about your prize details, don’t hesitate to contact us. We want you to enjoy your holiday to the fullest!
Who says you only have to be excited about your holiday once you’ve reached your destination? Let’s prolong that joy! Look up your destination, all the hot-spots, dreamy landscapes, and iconic views.
Picture yourself already there, relaxing on a beach in Italy, seeing the Northern Lights in Iceland, or doing a wine tasting in France.
Research local, must-see attractions, hiking trails, restaurants, and activities that align with your interests. Plan, but stay flexible. Create a rough itinerary, it’ll help with managing your budget and time.
If something catches your eye, though, let spontaneity be your guide. Don’t be afraid of going with the flow. Chances are that, when you’re out and about, you’ll discover a hidden gem no one talked about online. That’s part of the magic: visiting places that few people know about.
Still, you can never go wrong with doing a little bit of research. We’re strong advocates for it! It’ll give you a taste of your destination, and fuel your daydreams before they become a reality.
When you’re on holiday, the streets are your runway. It can be tempting to pack your entire wardrobe into a tiny suitcase. In fact, it’s hard sometimes not to!
We’re not here to stop you from doing that, but to gently remind you to leave some room for more ‘practical’ clothing, like comfortable walking shoes and raincoats. Come rain or shine, being prepared is the way to go. Living in the UK, you already know how it goes.
In a similar vein, don’t forget to pack your essentials. These include:
This is the most important thing to tick off your list: to have fun!
Wherever it is that you’re travelling, enjoy every moment. Fully immerse yourself in the local culture by trying new foods, shopping locally, learning a few new words or phrases, and meeting new people.
Take it a step further and venture off the beaten path. This will allow you to discover lesser-known neighbourhoods and to see a more authentic, less-touristy side of the place.
On your holiday, stay present, and indulge in some of that good old self-care. How often do you get to take some time off and treat yourself?
If your body’s calling for rest, sleep in, take a spa day, have a facial, or eat your brekkie in bed. Pamper yourself, you deserve it.
On the other hand, if adventure’s calling your name, go on a hike, do a safari tour, take a scuba diving class, or try sailing!
It depends on what you’re feeling and which epic destination you’ve travelled to, but the message is the same: make the most of it. Do what makes you happy and brings you joy, that’s the beauty of winning an Ace holiday!
Winning a prize deserves celebration, so let’s celebrate, together!
We love posting and sharing our winners’ stories and experiences with our Ace community. Everybody loves hearing about a good holiday, and living vicariously through the lucky traveller. It kickstarts some fun conversations, builds friendships, and, of course, allows you to show off your once-in-a-lifetime adventures.
To be fully transparent, your fun testimonials also help us show that we’re a fair and trustworthy business. This, in turn, helps us to continue giving away a wealth of prizes, including luxury holidays, and making people’s dreams come true.
If you were happy with your win and had a fabu-lux holiday, please share it on your socials and tag us. We’re looking forward to seeing and hearing all about your lovely travels!

What will make your travels even more enjoyable is everything going smoothly. There’s lots you can do to ensure this, like:
